Structure; The seven warehouses have been divided into stations; Co-Working space, Textile space, Kitchen space, Media and Maker space. And these use the same concept of the reusing old shipping containers and wooden pallets for the woodworks. The wood is torched to give the spaces warm and raw finish.

Steel is used as support structural elements to hold up the mezzanine floor; aluminum casing is used as door and window framing. The project remodels standard cube, 20 feet (6.40 meters) shipping containers as a key design idea for the warehouse spaces. Glass walls and doors are used to borrow light from the corridor areas. Warm lighting is integrated into the spaces to enhance visibility in the warehouses. 

MoTIV

At the end of a building’s life, it can either be demolished or it can be dismantled. And the elements and materials reused or recycled. However, the most environmentally beneficial use of waste is to reuse it, to reduce emissions to air and water. Motiv Makerspace is a project in Industrial area Bugolobi that tackles key issues in the built environment such as repurposing salvaged and reclaimed material. The concept of reusing old shipping containers, designing them to house offices and workspaces offers an inexpensive option of re-modeling the warehouses. 

Wooden pallets are repurposed for making timber floors, furniture and other woodwork items. This option repurposes a large number of unused pallets around Kampala. The use of the wooden pallets and old shipping containers minimise waste production in the construction process. Notwithstanding, the growth of the construction industry contributes approximately 40% of waste generated globally. The extensive use of timber and integration of steel and glass at Motiv enables the project to be more energy and carbon- conscious.
